Early literacy is not about learning to read in preschool; it is about building the important foundations needed for a smooth transition into early reading and writing in the primary grades.


Whenever preschoolers are friendly with the MAP speech sound-units and can recognize all alphabet letters, they will easily understand explicit {.Sound+Spellings.}.  We can expose eager learners to the facts and they will soak it all in!!  No mandate.  No pressure.


Here are a few significant acronyms for your consideration.

LETRS® stands for Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling.

LETSR (prounced Let's Read) would be better: Language Essentials for Teachers of Spelling and Reading.  Whether or not one is aware, encoding is always a prerequisite to decoding.

ETRSL?  This more cumbersome name would be best.
Essential Truth Regarding {.Sound+Spellings.} and Learning

SSR stands for Silent Sustained Reading... ready or not.

WA-HSSR = WordsAhead Heard-Said-Spelled-Read creates language readiness.

Miryam studied Biomedical Science at King's College London and specialized in Neuroscience & Pharmacology. Trained as a research assistant at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience.  Worked as freelance English-Arabic and Arabic-English translator for documentaries and for Reporters without Borders.  Worked as a researcher, interview coordinator, and a presenter in a documentary program broadcasted on AlAraby Television.

WordsAhead challenges Miryam's use of the word 'decoding' because the Heard-Said-Spelled-Read protocol perceives and experiences original thought first formulated according to some oral language system.  Those thoughts are automatically broadcasted metaphysically, but they may – or may not – become encoded according to some written symbol system.  Encodings then may – or may not – be deciphered for interpersonal communication by other entities, including humans, animals, and machines.  Internal and/or external speech will always occurs after thought, before spelling/encoding, and certainly ahead of any decoding or reading of the writing.

Why are students practicing a known word?  H O M E  Teacher is cementing a phonics rule ('Silent-Ee') which HSSR disputes because it only makes sense if one believes letters can talk aloud and/or be silent.  Tell the truth:   Letters are inert.
